Two tints can look identical from the sidewalk and perform completely differently in July traffic. The darkness (VLT %) only controls how much visible light gets through - what separates films is how they handle infrared heat and UV, and how they age.
A layer of dye between adhesive and polyester. It delivers the look and privacy for the lowest price, but dye absorbs rather than rejects heat, and it's the film that turns purple and bubbles after a few summers. Fine for an older car or a short-term fix.
Carbon particles block a meaningful share of infrared heat, the matte finish doesn't fade to purple, and pricing stays reasonable. If ceramic stretches the budget, carbon is the film most shops steer you to without hesitation.
Ceramic nano-particles reject the most heat at any given darkness - a light, fully legal ceramic tint can keep a cabin cooler than a dark dyed film. It blocks 99%+ of UV, doesn't interfere with GPS, phone, or radio signals (metallic films can), and carries the longest warranties. The premium is real, but it's the difference between tint that works and tint that just looks dark.
